When we think of self-care, we think of selfishness. This is not true. You are worthy and deserving of love and peace.

1. Doing work which is necessary, even if you don’t want to:

Many of us fall under the habit of procrastination, ignoring tasks to be done for temporary relief and pleasure. We procrastinate because the pain is of getting up and doing the task is less tempting than the relief of ignoring it. Self care is getting up and doing the things which will truly benefit you and make you feel better. For example, taking a shower, cleaning up your room, finishing your homework before you sleep. You future self will be grateful for you. This, truly, is one of the best ways to develop self love.

2. Gratitude Journaling

Gratitude journaling. Sounds simple enough right? Write everyday, a list of things which you are grateful to have today. The effects of gratitude journaling are extremely powerful. Many people who kept gratitude journaling as a consistent habit are now happier, more at peace, more productive and grateful for their life. It’s the best practice you can do to improve your mental health. Start it this way, “I am grateful for______because______”. Write anything that comes to your mind. For example, “I am grateful for this pen because it helps me write notes in school.”

3. Exercising

Exercising releases hormones in your body that lifts your mood and makes you feel happier. It improves the quality of your sleep. It keeps not only your body more fit and energized, but also improves your memory and brain function! Exercising is seriously one of the best things you can do for your mind and body. You’ll feel so much happier and amazing if you take exercising as a daily habit!

4. Going on nature walks:

Seriously, this self-care idea is REALLY good. If you take a light jog or walk around your neighborhood (IF the weather isn’t too polluted of course LOL), you’ll be surprised at how peaceful and beautiful the outside world is. Even the feeling of the sun and wind on your skin is enough to make you feel…alive. You get to witness the miracle of nature that surrounds you and you instantly feel more relaxed.

5. Treating yourself to a trip:

”All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”, is rightly said. Give yourself a reward occasionally for the work you’re doing! Celebrate your success and give your self a pat on the back. You deserve it bud!

6. Do your skincare routine:

Take a nice long shower, and wash your hair. I don’t know exactly why, but whenever I have greasy hair, I feel down in the dumps all day. So include a nice hair care routine for your self care!

Wash your face as well and use some skincare products. It’ll make you feel much more confident in yourself.

7. Declutter your house and workspace:

Having a messy house and desk will leave your mind full of jumbled thoughts! Take some time to put everything in its proper place and organize your desk. It’ll make you feel more satisfied and give you the motivation to work.

This one’s my favorite self care idea! Read a fictional story that excites you. Curl up on your couch with a book and a mug of warm tea.

Reading is not only beneficial for the mind but is also a great way to lift your mood.

9. Spend time with your pets:

Our furry little friends always know how to make us happy. Take your pet for a walk to the park, feed them, or just have a cuddle session.

Pets will always unconditionally love you forever, I guarantee that you’ll be unable to stop smiling!

10. Call up an old friend and chat with them:

Humans are naturally social creatures and love being around other humans. Call up an old friend you appreciate but haven’t talked to recently, and enjoy the moment with each other.
